A Multi-Zone HVAC System for a Typical Building for MATLAB/SIMULINK Platform

    Get PDF
Matlab/Simulink is known in a large number of fields as a powerful and modern simulation tool. In the field of building and HVAC simulation its use is also increasing. However, it is still believed to be a tool for small applications due to its graphical structure and not to fit well for the simulation of multi-zone buildings. This paper presents the development of a new multi-zone building model for Matlab/Simulink platform

    Get PDF
The PID controller design is a very popular method for controlling industrial processes and due to its simple structure and effective operation; it is used in a wide range of industries. In this paper, a method is provided for setting up the PID controller and Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is used to design a variable speed wind turbine system. The provided method has advantages such as easy implementation, stable convergence characteristics and high performance in computing. Finally the results are displayed

Good Clinical Practice in Children and Adolescents

    Get PDF
Good clinical practice (GCP) is a series of systematically developed ethical and quality standard of designing, registering, running, recording, and reporting of the clinical trials. Good clinical practice is very important regarding the trials usually performed on the vulnerable populations especially children and adolescents. The sensitivity of the issue is even higher in the children with psychiatric disorders. Usually, these children have little legal protection. Hence, the safety of interventions and the ethical considerations are among the most important issues in this field. The purpose of this chapter is to deal with above problems and globally applicable standards for the conduct of clinical trials on the under legal age subjects especially those with psychiatric disorders. Selection of trial subjects, ethical principles, regulatory requirements, protection of trial subjects, monitoring (compliance with the protocol), responsibilities of the investigator, and other requirements to perform a clinically and ethically sound clinical trial in children and adolescents will be discussed in this chapter

Reliability-based assessment on the performance of external dampers in controlling bridge stay cable vibrations

    Get PDF
Inclined stay cables on cable-stayed bridges are prone to wind-induced vibrations due to their long flexible nature and low structural damping. Severe stay cable vibrations under either the combined effect of rain and wind or wind only have been observed in field and wind tunnel tests which caused great concerns to bridge designers. To suppress these vibrations, fluid dampers are often attached to the stay cables near the anchorages. In order to facilitate effective and economical design of dampers for stay cable vibration mitigation, thorough understanding of both the vibration characteristics and the dynamics of the cable-damper system is necessary. Nevertheless, existing studies are limited to deterministic-based analysis of which the uncertainties of structural parameters (such as cable tension and damper capacity) and wind parameters (such as speed, direction, etc.) over the service life of a bridge are totally neglected. Thus, to provide complete information regarding the aerodynamic response of a damped cable, the problem should be more rationally studied from a probabilistic-based sense. This would offer bridge engineers a more reliable analytical tool for performance assessment of cable-damper systems. The current study aims at improving the current practice of external damper design by proposing a time-variant reliability-based framework model of a damped stay cable subjected to wind load conditions. Two types of cable vibrations that are more probable, i.e. rain-wind-induced cable vibrations, and/or critical, i.e. dry-inclined cable galloping, than the others are investigated. The research outcomes are drawn to ensure reliability of design and enhance maintainability of external dampers for bridge stay cables. The flexible applications of the proposed time-variant reliability-based framework tool are demonstrated through some case study examples

Introduction: Scintigraphy of renal system with radiopharmaceuticals extracts provides us with essential information as to assist the diagnosis and management of patients. In this research, effective doses of human’s organs due to gamma-rays of 99mTc-DTPA are estimated using the animal dissection data.Materials and Methods: In this study, the human absorbed and effective doses from 99mTc-DTPA are obtained from animal organs data, using medical internal radiation dosimetry (MIRD) method and MCNP simulation code. In each stage, three mice were injected and sacrificed, and then their organs were dissected and counted by well detector. Results: The results of MIRD and MCNP simulation code indicated that the two mentioned methods are in agreement. Also, kidney (1.23E-03mGy/MBq), spleen (2.81E-03 mGy/MBq) and heart (2.75E-03 mGy/MBq) absorbed the most gamma dose compared to the other organs. Conclusion: According to the results and comparison with ICRP data, animal dissection model can be a useful tool for internal absorbed dose estimation of renal radiopharmaceuticals.

Predicting marital satisfaction on the basis of identity style, Tehran, Iran

Introduction: Marital satisfaction affected mental and physical health, life satisfaction, career success, and social communications, and is one the most important indices of life satisfaction. Among all the factors relating to the marriage, the marital adjustment has a special place in the study of marriage and family relationships. Identity development is conceptualized as a process beginning in adolescence and peaking in the early adulthood period during which one explores and commits to possibilities in interpersonal relationship. During this time, young adults are determining the importance of parental, marital, and career life roles. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between identity styles with marital satisfaction and identification of predicting factors on marital satisfaction centers of city councils of Tehran, Iran. Methods: This was a correlational cross-sectional study. The population includes all couples referring to city councils in the 10th and 11th zones. Participants' duration of marriage was between 1 and 10 years. In this study, a total of 200 couples were selected using convenience cluster sampling, and the questionnaires were given and distributed to them in health homes, cultural centers of Tehran municipal. Tools of study were Enrich marital satisfaction questionnaire and Identity Style questionnaire. Questionnaires were collected and data were entered in SPSS software ver. 18 and analyzed. Descriptive tests, Pearson correlation test, and Multivariate Regression Test were used for description and analysis of data. Results: The mean age of samples in this study was 31.60 years old with standard deviation of 5.12 years (Ranged between 20- 44 years). Demographic data had normal distribution (P<0.05). One-way ANOVA analysis showed that there was significant relationship between the age of men and marital satisfaction (P= 0.01). Univariate Linear Model showed that there was no significant correlation between literacy (P=0.908) and occupation (P=0.629) with marital satisfaction. There was a significant relationship between marital satisfaction with normative and commitment styles (P<0.05) but there was no significant relation between this and informative and diffuse/avoidant styles (P>0.05). Linear regression analysis showed that only commitment style of identity can predict the marital satisfaction significantly

Background & Objectives: Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease causing disability in . The environmental factors play an important role in disease spread and since youths are affected more, this disease is of a great importance. As the incidence of this disease is not the same around the world, through using geographic information system, the spatial and descriptive data can be used to create maps, tables, and charts for data analysis and preventing the progression of the disease. Methods: In this descriptive study, 1200 Multiple sclerosis patients in Kerman province between 1987 and 2015 were surveyed. After collecting data and spatial data, the geographical distribution map of the disease was prepared. In this base, first, the points were inserted in the Google Earth and then, the locations of patients' accumulation were found by analyzing the hot spots. Results: According to the results, the majority of patients were habitants of the margin of Kerman and in the Salsabil area. The lowest numbers of patients were in Kuhbanan and Kahnouj. Women were affected 3.5 times more than men and the age group of 20 to 30 years old had the highest rate of this disease. Conclusion: Improving urban infrastructures, reducing construction density, controlling traffic problems, and improving the quality of urban life can improve the health of patients.
